Is Vitamin E good for skin?

Vitamin E helps to moisturize dry, irritated skin. Because of its antioxidant activity, vitamin E is vital in protecting skin cells from ultraviolet light, pollution and other elements that produce cell damaging free radicals. Free radicals are believed to play a large role in the aging of skin, which makes the antioxidant activity in vitamin E quite valuable to keep skin looking its best. If you are looking for a cleanser with vitamin E, consider pHisoderm® CLEAN Sensitive Skin.

Is bar soap better than face wash?

Though many of our grandmother’s swear by a conventional bar of soap to wash their face, it just simply is not your best option. Most bars of soaps have a pH level of 9-10 and if you are wondering if shampoo is any better, only slightly with a pH of 6-7. Your skin is at its best at a pH of 5.5 and washing your face with something so alkaline (high pH) could result in over drying, striping the oils that are essential in keeping your skin clear and healthy.

Why is fragrance in skin care bad?

Fragrances are one of the leading causes of allergic reactions on skin. If you have sensitive skin, opt for a cleanser that is fragrance-free, like pHisoderm® CLEAN Sensitive Skin.

Is hyaluronic acid good for acne?

Hyaluronic acid is a great way to keep any skin type smooth and moisturized, especially acne-prone skin. It can help reduce skin redness and protect the natural lipid barrier of the skin to ensure that skin is not over-dry; over-drying your skin can cause more acne. The Hyaloveil® (hyaluronic acid), in pHisoderm® CLEAN Blemish-Prone, adheres to the skin even after rinsing off and boosts moisture retention.

Why is skin pH important?

The acid mantle is key to skin’s protective barrier. It is a thin oily film, made up of sweat and sebum, which sits on top of the outmost layer of our skin and protects skin from bacteria entering. Many of the contaminants that might enter our skin, such as chemicals from the atmosphere and harmful bacteria, are alkaline in nature, which means they have a pH of higher than 7. When bacteria are killed by acid they can’t damage the skin but if you strip skin of its acidic mantle by using the wrong skin care products, it becomes much easier for bacteria to find its way in. Our skin’s natural acidity neutralizes chemicals and bacteria, which is a necessary part of the body’s defense system.

The acid mantle becomes unbalanced with the use of strong alkaline soaps, cleansers, and detergents. Excess perspiration may also be a factor. If you perspire more than average, your acid mantle will have a higher proportion of sweat compared to others, throwing skin of its natural balance.

Maintain skins acid mantle by:

  • Using pH balanced skin care products
  • Avoiding harsh soaps
  • Frequently moisturizing with a slightly acidic moisturizer
  • Protecting yourself from the sun

Maintaining both the acid mantle and skin’s pH is a fine balance, but vital to being able to neutralize harmful bacteria, which can lead to acne, infection, or irritation. pHisoderm® CLEAN cleansers restore skin back to its natural balance to help maintain healthy-looking and feeling skin.
